NEW CLASSES NOW BEING OFFERED AT POST5!

For actors looking to break out of body habits and recurring creative cul-de-sacs, Post5 Theatre will be holding a series of acting classes at the Milepost5 Community for Creatives in NE Portland starting January 22 and running through May 19.

The program will be divided into three separate classes, each meeting once or twice a week.

Taught by James Peck, the classes are aimed at creating a continual dialogue between exploration and experience, to stretch the imagination of the actor, both physically and artistically.

Classes Being Offered:

  • The first class, Intro to Acting, is only two Sundays, January 22 and 29, and is open to anybody. In this class, Peck will give those new to theatre a chance to explore the stage and what it means to be an actor. Cost of this class is $30.
  • The second class, The Body Unmasked, runs for six Sundays, February 5 through March 12 and encompasses a broad range of topics designed to strip away habit and increase physical fitness and control. Running concurrently for the last three weeks on Mondays is a vocal workshop, The Voice Unmasked. The entire six week course builds to a stage presentation of a chosen work of mask or poetic text on March 16. The Voice Unmasked is included in the cost of the class, $150, but not required.
  • The third class, Clown, runs eight Sundays, March 25 through May 14, and focuses on all aspects of both classical and modern clowning. For the last three weeks on Mondays there is a vocal clown study, Character Voice - focusing on Shakespeare, Euripedes or Goethe - which culminates in a clown presentation of these works on May 19. Character Voice is included in the cost of the class, $180, but not required.

Classes may be bundled for a discount, $300, and payment plans are readily available to those who need it.

About the Teacher:

James Peck was trained at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and followed a career in film, stage and television. He then came to America in 2002 to train at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre. He graduated with an MFA in Ensemble based Physical Theatre in 2005 and was then invited to become full time faculty at the school, where for five years he taught ‘The Vocal Body’ and ‘Games Dynamics.’ Here, after relocating to Portland last summer, he is coaching actors in an artful blend of ensemble play, classical theater and physical theater training.
